St. Francis Meets Mother Teresa, Peace Prayer Lets Loose

November 27th, 2007

Some thoughts to follow these moments of inspiration.

“The Peace Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow charity;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light; and
Where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying to ourselves that we are born to eternal life.”

I am presenting this “peace” prayer after being reminded of it when listening to a cd by Wayne Dyer. This uplifting and comforting prayer is believed to have been written around 1900 and is attributed to St. Francis of Assisi mainly as it expresses his beliefs and spirit.

Another inspirational work, shown below, is an adaptation of the work of Mother Teresa.
“The Final Analysis

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; …Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; …Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; …Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; …Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; …Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; …Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; …Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; …Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.”

I wanted the above to stand on it’s own so I will post some thoughts afterwards, below.

I am not an expert on this, I came across some things that brought me to a place of wanting to present some things. I prefer to keep it light for the most part and not to get too hung up on words, not to analyze them or dissect them, just let the overall feeling emerge and see how that feels.

I generally look beyond the religious aspect of things to a place of spirituality that transcends main stream religion. While I say transcends, this still includes that aspect of spirituality that is foundational in religion and the concepts that seem to be incorporated in all the world’s major religions. When examined they do have, at their core, the same or similar messages.

The differences and interpretations of mankind bring about the challenges that are faced from a historical viewpoint and today. This starts when words come into play, as the Tao would have it. What does it matter the name assigned to this Universal Energy, whether it be God, Buddha, Creator, Allah, etc?

As Harry Palmer of Avatar would say, we are all the same, it is only our beliefs that separate us. I interpret that as being “we are all one”.

Just a few light thoughts for today. I was looking at some others. That will come later.

Namaste,
